June 1, 2026 “Serving Sharing Sending”

From the Pastor
Every father has his favorite chair. It is the place where he sits at the end of a day. He will do one or two of the following things. He may watch the news. He may read the newspaper. He may watch an athletic event. He may just close his eyes and take a nap.
Dr. John Maxwell is a well-known pastor, leadership expert, professional speaker, and author. His books have sold millions of copies. Dr. Maxwell has written that every father sits in one of the following chairs. He has names for these metaphorical chairs.
There is the “chair of conflict.” A father chooses this chair because he has no relationship with God. He lives in conflict because he is being pushed and pulled by everything the world has to offer.
There is the “chair of compromise.” A father chooses this chair so that he can connect with God when it is convenient. A father’s relationship with God is one of “lukewarmness.”
There is the “chair of commitment.” A father chooses this chair when he seeks God with all his heart. He has made the decision to live for God. It is God whom he will worship and serve.
Psalm chapter one describes the father who chooses to sit in “the chair of commitment.” He “does not walk in the counsel of the wicked.” This means he does not expose himself to their lifestyles or philosophies. He does not “stand in the way of sinners.” This means he is careful where he hangs out and spends time. He does not “sit in the seat of mockers.” This means that he has his heart set on piety, purity, and purpose.
There is one more description of the father who chooses to sit in “the chair of commitment.” A father chooses this chair when “his delight is in the law of the Lord.” What is God’s law? It is His requirements for all of us. They are summed up in the words of Jesus.
Jesus said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all you mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it. Love your neighbor as yourself.”
(Matthew 22: 37-39)
The father who chooses to sit in “the chair of commitment” will be blessed.

MOTHER’S DAY OFFERING: Although the focus for May was on the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospitals Mother’s Day Offering, there has been a major change in how these offerings are used. According to Atrium Health, they have established new policies and programs for patients who need assistance with their medical bills. Therefore, the need for this offering for the general population has dramatically decreased. Beginning in 2025, this offering will be connected to the Baptist Minister’s Subsidy in an effort to assist ministers who may struggle to pay their medical bills. We did collect this offering through the month of May. Thank you for your participation.
Thank you so much for your generous donations to the Baptist Children’s Homes Food Roundup! We received over 100 items of food and supplies and $140.00 in gift cards. These were delivered to the Raleigh Baptist Association on April 28.

THANK YOU: Thank you supporting our ministries.
